A girlfriend and I were trying to come up with ways that marriage could be all the things that were mentioned (anti-corporate, personalized, alternative) and realized how little options there are between the binary of 'married' and 'not married'. And as my womens' studies prof pointed out recently, even so-called variations of marriage (gay marriage, common-law, even polygamy) end up looking like the marriage we think of as 'normal'. It's disheartening to think that a relationship's identity is constructed around a ring and veil; and even more so that there are few alternatives to the ring and veil.

Obviously, I am going to agree with Sean regarding the marriage discussion. The romantic part of NOT being married is the fact there is no third party (government, church, etc...) involved. Our union is only about the two of us. And like Sean, I am not anti-marriage. I'm just anti-marriage for us.
And I'm glad you guys have finally established your web presence.
